Job description

Engage Education are working with a fantastic Special School in Bradford BD9 , which supports young people with Autism, Learning Disabilities, and SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs. We are currently recruiting for a number of SEND Teaching Assistants to join the team

  • Full time Monday to Friday
  • Term time only
  • 8.30 am- 3.30 pm working hours

We welcome individuals who have experience working in adult care, health and social care, or support work who are seeking to transition into the education sector.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the class teacher to deliver engaging lessons and facilitate classroom activities.
  • Provide support to students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), including those with Autism, learning disabilities, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.
  • Assist students with personal care tasks, such as feeding and changing, when necessary.
  • Support the development of students’ communication, social skills, and independence, using appropriate strategies and resources.
  • Promote positive behavior and emotional well-being, maintaining a calm and consistent approach to student needs.

Essential Requirements:

  • Recent experience working with children or adults with learning disabilities or SEND.
  • A background in care work, health and social care, or support work is highly desirable.
  • Comfortable with providing personal care as part of the role.
  • Must have GCSEs in English and Maths (Grade C/4 or above).
  • A calm, patient, and nurturing personality with a passion for helping others.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build trusting relationships with students and staff.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
