Do you have the patience, resilience, and compassion to support children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in achieving their full potential?

GSL Education are welcoming applications from dedicated and enthusiastic individuals for the role of SEND Teaching Assistant to work at a welcoming and inclusive school in North Shields. This position provides an excellent opportunity to play a vital role in shaping the daily learning experiences of children with additional needs, offering tailored support that makes a real difference.

About the Role:
As a SEND TA, you will work closely with the class teacher and the SENCO to provide 1:1 or small group support to pupils with a variety of special educational needs, including autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges. You will help implement individual education plans, create a nurturing and supportive environment, and foster pupils' independence and progress both academically and emotionally.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support pupils with SEND in and out of the classroom, adapting learning materials to suit their needs.
  • Implement strategies to promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and social development.
  • Liaise with teaching staff, external professionals, and parents to track progress and support strategies.
  • Help to create an inclusive classroom environment where all pupils feel safe, valued, and engaged.
  • Deliver structured interventions, sensory activities, or life-skills sessions as needed.

Job Requirements:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEND in an educational or care setting.
  • Sound understanding of autism spectrum disorders, ADHD, and other learning difficulties.
  • Calm, empathetic, and proactive approach to classroom support.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Relevant qualifications or training in SEN (e.g. CACHE Level 2/3, Team Teach, Makaton) are desirable.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).

Why Join GSL Education?

  • Dedicated consultants offering personalised support and career guidance.
  • Opportunity to make a lasting difference in the lives of young learners.
  • Inclusive, welcoming, and community-focused school environments.

If you're ready to contribute meaningfully to the development of SEND pupils and thrive in a supportive team, we would love to hear from you.

Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks; including providing an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or completing an application for a new check.
