Key Responsibilities Of An Early Years Practitioner

  • Teaching and Learning:
    • Supporting teachers in planning and delivering activities.
    • Assisting pupils with diverse learning needs (such as autism).
    • Providing feedback and assistance to teachers.
    • Creating an engaging and stimulating environment.
    • Addressing physical, social, and emotional needs of children, which may include personal care.
    • Collaborating to cater to individual or group learning needs.
    • Create a safe, stimulating, and inclusive learning environment where all children feel valued and supported to achieve their potential.
    • Use a range of teaching strategies, including practical activities, to promote active learning.
    • Foster confidence, independence, and social skills in pupils.
  • Assessment and Progress:
    • Monitor and support children's emotional and social development
  • Classroom Management:
    • Establish clear and consistent rules for classroom behaviour and promote a positive learning environment.
    • Implement effective behaviour management strategies to maintain a productive, respectful, and safe classroom atmosphere.
    • Foster positive relationships with students, encouraging their social and emotional development alongside their academic progress.
  • Collaboration and Teamwork:
    • Participate in school meetings, training, and collaborative planning sessions.
    • Maintain open lines of communication with parents and carers to keep them informed about student progress and school events.
  • Personal Development:
    • Continue to develop professionally by attending training sessions and workshops relevant to your practice.
    • Stay up to date with the latest educational trends, strategies, and practices to ensure that teaching methods remain innovative and effective.
Personal Specification

  • Qualifications:
    • A recognised Teaching Assistant Qualification is essential.
  • Experience:
    • Experience working as a teaching assistant in a school.
    • Knowledge and understanding of the Primary curriculum.
    • Experience working with children with a range of learning needs, including SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities).
  • Skills and Attributes:
    • Strong classroom management skills, with the ability to create a positive, inclusive environment.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with students, parents, and colleagues.
    • Creativity and resourcefulness in assisting with learning activities and supporting children development
  • Personal Qualities:
    • A patient and nurturing attitude to support children's emotional and social growth with sensitivity and understanding.
    • A proactive and self-motivated individual who takes initiative and can work both independently and as part of a team.
