SEND Teaching Assistant, Faringdon
A large secondary school in Faringdon are actively looking for a new specialist teaching assistant to join their school on a full time basis. The role will start September 2025 and will be ongoing for the remaining academic year.
This role will involve supporting pupils with various learning difficulties, and will require experience and an understanding of working with children with autism, ADHD, communication difficulties and mild to moderate behavioural difficulties.
This role does not require a CACHE qualified teaching assistant but experience of supporting children with additional needs is a necessity.
It would be beneficial to have an understanding of Makaton, BSL and other forms of non-verbal communication.
Your Responsibilities Will Include
- Classroom Support:
- Working alongside the class teacher to support the delivery of lessons
- Assisting with classroom organisation, preparing resources, and maintaining a positive learning environment.
- Supporting the teacher with managing classroom behaviour.
- Supporting Learning and Development:
- Supporting pupils' engagement in learning activities, encouraging independence and participation.
- Helping pupils overcome barriers to learning.
- Providing emotional support and promoting positive social interactions among pupils.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Working effectively as part of the school team, collaborating with teachers, the SENDCo, and other support staff.
- Communicating relevant information about pupil progress and well-being to the class teacher and SENDCo.
- Potentially liaising with parents/carers under the direction of the class teacher or SENDCo.
Candidate Profile
We are seeking a dedicated and adaptable Teaching Assistant, with experience in a secondary school setting and a strong understanding of supporting pupils with SEND. The ideal candidate will possess:
- Experience working as a Teaching Assistant in a primary school.
- Proven experience and understanding of supporting pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
- A patient, nurturing, and understanding approach to working with children.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents/carers.
- The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Resilience and the ability to adapt to different classroom environments and pupil needs.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
- Availability to work full-time, Monday to Friday during term time.
Qualifications
- Relevant Teaching Assistant qualification (e.g., Level 2 or 3) or demonstrable equivalent experience is highly desirable.
- Training or professional development related to supporting pupils with specific SEND is advantageous.
