Job description

A local primary school in Withington is currently seeking a highly skilled SEND Teacher to lead a small specialist unit of 5 pupils (expected to increase to 7 in September) with severe and complex needs. The role is to start on a supply basis, with strong potential for a longer-term block booking for the right candidate.

This is a key leadership role within the unit, which comprises three experienced Teaching Assistants. As such, we are looking to speak with teachers who not only have a strong background in special educational needs, but also bring the confidence, competence, and interpersonal skills to direct and support staff within the classroom setting.

Key Details:

  • Working with Year 1 pupils with significant SEND needs

  • Small, supportive classroom environment

  • Leading a team of three experienced TAs

  • Well-resourced and supportive school

  • Not suitable for ECTs/NQTs - significant specialist experience is essential

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Proven experience teaching in a specialist SEND setting

  • Strong understanding of severe and complex needs in EYFS/KS1

  • The ability to manage and inspire a small team of support staff

  • A calm, positive and proactive approach to behaviour and classroom management

  • A commitment to high-quality, child-centred teaching and learning
