Job description

SEND Teacher - PRU, SEMH
Type: Permanent (via trial contract)
Start: ASAP
Location: Swindon
Pay: MPS & UPS + SEND allowance

Elementa is recruiting a capable SEND Teacher to work at a special school & PRU in Swindon. The school provides education across their sites for learners with ASD/ASC (Autism), SEMH, and other complex needs, including children who have been permanently excluded. Many of these children display challenging behaviors.

Working as an SEND Teacher in this environment presents challenges but is highly rewarding. The school maintains high expectations and offers supportive, nurturing environments for learners. The headteacher continues a long-standing approach to provide outstanding opportunities for students while fostering a positive, friendly, and welcoming atmosphere for staff.

Applicants with Team Teach or other positive behavior management training may have an advantage; however, free training will be provided for successful candidates. The school operates transparently and collaboratively, encouraging staff input to enhance the working environment and student opportunities. It is a positive environment for both staff and students.

If you are a skilled SEND Teacher eager to make a meaningful difference and work alongside a strong team, this role is ideal.

Applicants should have solid SEND experience, particularly in SEMH and ASD/ASC, and know how to adapt teaching methods to ensure high-quality learning. Those without prior PRU experience but with good SEND background and the ability to engage learners and deliver quality lessons will also be considered.

To be eligible for supply roles, you must:

  • Have substantial SEND experience
  • Be committed to the school's policies and procedures
  • Show resilience and tenacity
  • Be dedicated to supporting students' education and future prospects

Elementa manages all applicants, screening for suitability. We are not a supply agency but a school services and recruiting partner. We handle candidate vetting, compliance, and payroll processing. Candidates considered after pre-screening must complete registration, including background checks and applying for an Enhanced DBS Disclosure (cost may be £62.70 unless you have a current DBS on the update service).

If you have the relevant skills and experience, please apply with your full, up-to-date CV. All applicants will receive prompt responses.

This role is not suitable for applicants who:

  • Are not currently based in the UK
  • Lack UK SEND teaching experience
  • Require sponsorship to work in the UK

ELEMENTA CANDIDATE COMMITMENT:

  • Weekly pay, with no waiting for monthly payroll cut-offs. Elementa pays one week in lieu.
  • PAYE contract—unless specifically requested otherwise, all candidates are paid via PAYE, ensuring protections similar to a traditional employer-employee relationship. No umbrella companies.
  • Training & support—access to free or discounted training including Safeguarding, Behaviour, Team Teach, SEND, Makaton, and Thrive.
  • Regular welfare contact and support from a dedicated candidate manager.
