Job Title: SEND Teacher
Location: Newcastle
Salary: £150 - £220 per day (Depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Daily Supply, Long-Term

Are you a compassionate and adaptable teacher with a drive to create meaningful learning opportunities for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities? If so, GSL Education are working in partnership with a specialist provision in Newcastle to recruit a committed and skilled SEND Teacher who can make a genuine difference in the lives of pupils with complex learning profiles.

About the Role:

As an SEND Teacher, you will join a supportive team in a specialist setting that caters to children and young people with a range of needs, including Autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and moderate to severe learning difficulties. You will be responsible for delivering a tailored curriculum that meets the individual academic, emotional, and sensory needs of your learners.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Planning and delivering differentiated lessons across core and foundation subjects.
  • Creating structured, safe, and stimulating learning environments.
  • Collaborating with teaching assistants, therapists, and external professionals to support EHCP outcomes.
  • Using a range of communication and assistive technologies to support diverse learners.
  • Tracking progress against personal targets and adapting teaching strategies accordingly.
  • Promoting pupils’ independence, confidence, and life skills.
  • Managing behaviour positively with a consistent, trauma-informed approach.

SEND Teacher requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Proven experience teaching children or young people with SEND (in special or mainstream schools, or alternative provisions), particularly ASD, SEMH, or MLD
  • A proven track record of raising student attainment and delivering outstanding lessons.
  • Subject specialism in SEND is essential.
  • Strong classroom and behaviour management skills
  • Excellent communication, empathy, and organisational abilities
  • A proactive and flexible approach to individual learning needs
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years, barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
