Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant

As a Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting the learning and development of students with special educational needs. Working closely with the SEN Coordinator or Class Teacher, you will contribute to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment that enables all students to reach their full potential. This role requires a compassionate and patient individual with a genuine interest in helping children overcome barriers to learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Individualised Support: Provide one-to-one or small group support to students with SEN, adapting teaching methods to individual learning styles. Implement strategies from Individual Education Plans (IEPs) to support academic progress.
  2. Classroom Assistance: Collaborate with teachers to assist in planning and delivering lessons, ensuring materials are accessible and promoting an inclusive environment through positive interactions and peer relationships.
  3. Behavioural Support: Support students in managing behaviour, implementing behaviour plans, and promoting positive social interactions. Observe and report behavioural or emotional changes to the SEN Coordinator.
  4. Communication: Maintain open communication with parents, teachers, and professionals, and actively contribute to team meetings with insights and updates.
  5. Resource Development: Assist in creating and adapting learning resources to meet diverse needs, working with teachers on differentiated instructional strategies.
  6. Personal Care: Provide personal care assistance as required, following safety and health protocols.
  7. Professional Development: Engage in ongoing training and workshops to stay updated on best practices in SEN.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Qualifications in education, childcare, or special education.
  • Experience working with children with SEN is desirable.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a passion for supporting children's educational development.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and follow guidance from SEN Coordinator or Class Teacher.

All pay rates include statutory holiday pay. This is a temporary position, with potential for permanency later.
