Job description

SEND Support Assistants Wanted – North Tyneside Primary Schools
Full-Time | Term-Time Only | Through Protocol Education

Are you resilient, compassionate, and ready to make a difference where it matters most?

We’re looking for adaptable, dedicated SEND Support Assistants to work in primary schools across North Tyneside. These full-time, term-time only roles are both rewarding and challenging—supporting children with complex needs, including emotional regulation difficulties, speech and language delays, and behaviours that can sometimes be physically or verbally challenging.

What makes this role special?
You won’t just be supporting one child—you’ll need to flex between providing 1:1 tailored support and stepping in to help the whole class when needed. Some days you’ll be focused on guiding one pupil to build confidence and engagement, and on others, you’ll be a key part of the classroom team, helping keep learning on track for everyone.

This is a role for someone who:

  • Stays calm and consistent, even under pressure

  • Can set boundaries with kindness and confidence

  • Knows that behaviour is communication—and responds with patience and curiosity

  • Is creative when it comes to developing language and communication skills

  • Can build trust with one child, then seamlessly support a wider class when needed

  • Is ready to be that steady, encouraging presence—every single day

We’re especially keen to hear from you if you have:

  • Psychology, childhood studies, or education qualifications

  • Experience in care, residential, youth work, or social work

  • Supported people with autism, ADHD, or speech and language needs

  • Personal or voluntary experience with individuals with SEND

What you’ll get with Protocol Education:

  • Access to ongoing CPD and specialist SEND training

  • A dedicated consultant who gets to know you and your career goals

  • Roles matched to your experience and ambitions

  • The chance to make a lasting difference in children’s lives every day

Ready to step into a role where no two days are the same?
