Job summary

Milk Education is recruiting for a Teaching Assistant to join a Specialist SEND Secondary School in North Shields on a long or short-term basis starting in September. This role is temporary with the possibility of a permanent role following a qualifying period.

You’ll be joining a supportive, specialist setting dedicated to helping young people with a range of additional needs, including Autism, SEMH, Moderate Learning Difficulties and communication needs.

Qualifications

• Recent experience working in a school, SEND setting or education environment is desirable.
• Experience supporting children or young people with additional needs such as Autism, SEMH, ADHD or learning difficulties is desirable.
• Solid numeracy and literacy skills.
• A Level 2 or 3 qualification in childcare, education, health and social care or similar - or equivalent hands-on experience.
• Comfortable taking direction from teaching staff and working collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• A patient, resilient and empathetic approach to supporting young people with diverse learning needs.
• An enhanced DBS on the update service or be willing to obtain one.

Responsibilities

• Supporting students on a one-to‑one basis and in small groups, responding to their individual SEND needs.
• Helping to deliver personalised learning activities and interventions to support academic, social and emotional development.
• Working alongside teachers and other professionals to adapt lessons and resources to meet a range of learning needs.
• Promoting a calm, accepting and inclusive learning environment where every student feels safe, valued and encouraged to achieve their goals.
• Supporting students with emotional regulation, communication and positive behaviour strategies where required.
