Job description

SEND Science Teacher - PRU, SEMH

Type: Permanent (via trial contract)

Start: ASAP

Location: Swindon

Pay: MPS & UPS + SEND allowance

Elementa is recruiting an able Science Teacher to work at a special school & PRU based in Swindon. The school provides education across their sites for learners with ASD/ASC (Autism), SEMH, and other complex needs, including children who have been permanently excluded from mainstream schools. Many of their students display challenging behaviors.

Teaching Science in this environment presents unique challenges; however, it is a highly rewarding role. The school maintains high expectations and offers nurturing support to its learners. The headteacher promotes an outstanding educational experience while fostering a positive, friendly, and welcoming work environment for staff.

Applicants with Team Teach or other positive behavior management training may have an advantage; however, free training will be provided for the successful candidate. The school operates transparently and collaboratively, encouraging staff input to enhance the working environment and student opportunities. Overall, it is a positive environment for both staff and students.

If you are a skilled Science Teacher eager to make a meaningful difference and work alongside a strong team, this role is ideal.

Applicants should have significant SEND experience, particularly with SEMH and ASD/ASC, and know how to adapt teaching approaches to ensure high-quality learning. Non-specialist teachers with solid Science teaching experience and the ability to engage learners are also encouraged to apply.

To be considered for this role, you must:

  • Have relevant SEND experience
  • Be committed to school policies and procedures
  • Demonstrate resilience and tenacity
  • Be dedicated to supporting students' education and future opportunities

Elementa manages all applicant screening and suitability assessments. We are not a supply agency but a school services and recruitment partner. We handle vetting, compliance, and payroll processing. Applicants passing pre-screening will need to complete Elementa’s registration, including background checks and an application for an Enhanced DBS Disclosure (chargeable at £53.20 unless you have a current DBS on the update service).

If you possess the relevant skills and experience, please apply with your full, up-to-date CV. All applicants will receive a prompt response.

This role is not suitable for applicants who:

  • Are not currently based in the UK
  • Lack UK SEND teaching experience
  • Require sponsorship to work in the UK

  • Weekly pay, with no waiting for monthly payroll cutoff; one week in lieu of holiday pay

  • Access to a broad range of free or discounted training, including Safeguarding, Behaviour, Team Teach, SEND, Makaton, and Thrive
  • Regular welfare support from a dedicated candidate manager
