Job summary

Derbyshire County Council is seeking an experienced Virtual School Officer (SEND) to join the team on a temporary maternity cover basis. You will support children in care aged 0-18, identify SEND needs, coordinate interventions and advocate for learners to secure appropriate educational provision.

You will work with carers, social workers, schools and other partners to ensure timely EHC planning, maintain records, and deliver training to improve outcomes while upholding safeguarding standards.

Qualifications

• Significant experience of working with children and young people in a variety of settings.
• Experience of multi-agency working and building effective professional relationships.
• A good understanding of SEND legislation and inclusive education processes.
• Experience assessing needs, planning support and reviewing outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Identify and assess SEND needs and support planning of interventions.
• Contribute to EHC assessment and planning processes within statutory timescales.
• Liaise with authorities and providers to secure appropriate educational provision.
• Advocate for children and young people, ensuring their views drive planning.
• Provide guidance and challenge to professionals to promote inclusion.
• Deliver training, projects and events supporting the Virtual School.
• Maintain accurate records in line with safeguarding policies.
