Job description
Overview

Smile Education are seeking an experienced Learning Support Practitioner to join a welcoming school in the Walsall area. This rewarding role involves providing tailored support to a student with Cerebral Palsy Quadriplegia, associated learning difficulties, and additional developmental needs. We are looking for a caring, patient, and proactive practitioner who is passionate about making a difference in a young person’s life, encouraging independence wherever possible, and supporting both academic and personal growth.

About the Role

You will work closely with a student to:

  • Support in lessons, including note-taking where required (Chromebook use in class).
  • Assist with gross and fine motor skill challenges, while encouraging independence in self-help tasks.
  • Provide support with speech and language needs.
  • Encourage emotional and social skills development, supporting confidence in peer interactions.
  • Offer assistance at lunchtimes (buying/carrying food) while promoting independence during meals.
  • Provide personal care support, including safe use of a rotunda.
Student’s Targets and Outcomes
  • Maintain and grow confidence in both social and academic settings.
  • Develop independence in managing physical needs and learning tasks.
  • Continue striving towards greater self-help and life skills.
About You

To be successful, you will have:

  • Recent experience supporting children or young people with SEN, ideally with complex physical and learning needs.
  • A relevant qualification in education, childcare, or health and social care.
  • A compassionate and flexible approach, with the ability to build strong, positive relationships.
  • Confidence in providing personal care in a respectful and dignified way.
  • The patience and creativity to adapt learning tasks and encourage independence.
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service (or be willing to apply for a new one).
  • A minimum of two references covering the last two years, with comments on your interaction with children.
