SEND Learning Support Mentor - SEMH, trauma, ASC

Location: Thrapston, Northants
Start date: September 2025
Pay: £12.83 - £15.38 per hour during trial period (£18,000pa - £21,000pa equivalent actual perm salary)

Elmtree Learning Partnership will be opening a new site in Thrapston from September 2025 in partnership with a local provider. This service is part of the Elementa Education Group, which operates a multi-site Alternative Education Provision and Elmtree Grove School, an independent SEND School for primary-aged learners. Our ALP supports primary and secondary pupils with EHCPs, mainly related to ASC and SEMH, based in Weston Super Mare. The ALP offers a 'revolving-door' service where students stay up to 18 weeks, either returning to mainstream education or attending a special school, funded by local referrals. We are recruiting a team for the new site supporting learners aged 5-14 (KS1, KS2, KS3).

We seek applicants with experience supporting learners with additional needs related to SEMH, trauma, and ASC/ASD. The ideal candidate will act as a positive role model and deliver an alternative curriculum. Many learners have not engaged in education for a significant time, requiring an individual approach. Training in positive behaviour management (Team Teach, PBM, MAPA, THRIVE) is desirable. If successful, Team Teach training will be provided free of charge and is a requirement for the role.

The working hours are 9:00am to 3:30pm, Monday to Friday, term time only.

We are interested in candidates who:

  • Have experience working with children overcoming barriers and difficult situations
  • Can engage parents in supporting children at home
  • Are eager to undergo training and implement new ideas
  • Are passionate about working with young people
  • Understand effective intervention strategies
  • Are committed to safeguarding and helping children overcome difficulties
  • Strive to maximize students' academic and personal achievements
  • Can work in a dynamic, challenging environment
  • Possess excellent communication and teamwork skills

The role may transfer to a permanent contract after a successful trial period (60 paid days). This is a great opportunity for training and being part of a supportive organization with future expansion plans.

Elementa is the recruiting partner. Applicants may need to complete registration, including vetting, background checks, references, and DBS application (costs may apply if not on the update service).

This role is not suitable for applicants who:

  • Are not UK-based
  • Require employer sponsorship for UK work rights
  • Lack UK school experience
  • Do not have UK SEND support experience

If you have the relevant skills and experience, please apply with your current CV. All applicants will be responded to promptly.

Elementa Candidate Commitment:

  • Weekly pay, with no waiting for monthly payroll
  • PAYE contract for employee protections
  • Free or discounted training (Safeguarding, Behaviour, Team Teach, SEND, Makaton, Thrive)
  • Regular support from a dedicated candidate manager
  • Fair pay policy, with written agreement on pay variations
  • Additional support services (tax, legal, accounting)
