We provide free, confidential, impartial advice and guidance to support parents of children with special educational needs and children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.

This role would involve leading our SENDIASS service, with line management responsibilities for three part-time co-ordinators, as well as promoting and developing the service to meet the needs of children, young people and their families, working with a range of partners including health, social care, education and school colleagues.

As well as the management and development of the SENDIASS service, this role would involve case work with children, young people, their families and a wide range of professionals including schools, colleges and the statutory SEND service to ensure the best possible outcomes for those with SEND and their families.

SENDIASS covers the whole of the Westmorland & Furness footprint, and you would be responsible for the service across the authority; however, the case work element of this role would be mainly within the Barrow/Ulverston areas.

This role is for 22.2 hours per week and could be worked as three full-time days, or across four shorter days. Whilst the exact days/times will be agreed with the successful candidate, one of these days must include a Friday, to ensure we have full cover for the service.

Who we are looking for…

  • Someone who can listen, support and offer impartial advice, including signposting to a range of other services
  • Someone who understands the needs of families with children and young people with SEND
  • Someone organised, flexible and adaptable
  • Someone who can manage and develop the service to meet the changing needs and requirements of service users
  • Someone who can work in partnership with schools and other agencies

Whilst lots of aspects of this role can be carried out virtually, there will be some local travel involved.
