Job description

SEND HLTA - PRU, SEMH
Type: Permanent (via trial contract)
Start: ASAP
Location: Swindon
Pay: £100 - 140 per day during trial contract

Elementa is recruiting an experienced SEND HLTA to work at a special school & PRU based in Swindon. The school provides education across their sites for learners with ASD/ASC (Autism), SEMH, and other complex needs, including children who have been permanently excluded from mainstream schools. Many of their students display challenging behaviors.

Working in this environment presents its challenges, but it is also highly rewarding. The school maintains high expectations and offers nurturing support to its learners. The headteacher continues to promote outstanding opportunities for students while fostering a positive, friendly, and welcoming work environment for staff.

Applicants with Team Teach or other positive behavior management training may have an advantage; however, free training will be provided for successful candidates. The school values transparency and collaboration among staff and leadership, encouraging idea sharing to improve the working environment and student opportunities. This creates a positive environment for both staff and students.

If you are a skilled SEND HLTA seeking an opportunity to make a meaningful difference while working alongside a strong team, this could be the right role for you.

Applicants should have solid SEND experience, particularly with SEMH and ASD/ASC, and be able to adapt teaching approaches to ensure high-quality learning. Candidates without PRU experience but with strong SEND background and the ability to engage learners can also be considered.

To be eligible for this role, you must:

  1. Have relevant SEND experience
  2. Be committed to the school's policies and procedures
  3. Demonstrate resilience and tenacity
  4. Be fully invested in supporting students' education and future opportunities

Elementa manages all applicants, screening their suitability for the school. We are not a supply agency; we are a school services and recruiting partner. We handle vetting, compliance, and payroll processing. Applicants will need to complete our registration process, including background checks and applying for an Enhanced DBS Disclosure (costs may apply unless you have a current DBS on the update service).

If you possess the relevant skills and experience, please apply with your up-to-date CV. All applications will receive prompt responses.

This role is not suitable for applicants who:

  • Are not currently based in the UK
  • Lack UK SEND experience
  • Require sponsorship to work in the UK

ELEMENTA CANDIDATE COMMITMENT:

  • Weekly pay, with no waiting for monthly payroll cut-offs. Elementa pays one week in advance.
  • PAYE contract – unless requested otherwise, all candidates are paid via PAYE, ensuring protections of a traditional employer-employee relationship, with no umbrella companies involved.
  • Training & Support – access to free or discounted training, including Safeguarding, Behaviour, Team Teach, SEND, Makaton, and Thrive.
  • Regular welfare contact and support from a dedicated candidate manager.
