Tradewind Recruitment is working in partnership with a caring, inclusive SEND school in Heywood, Rochdale, to recruit a SEND English Teacher for a long-term supply position running throughout the autumn term.

This welcoming school supports learners from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 4, many of whom have SEN and SEMH needs, and places a strong emphasis on delivering trauma-informed, nurturing and aspirational education tailored to the unique needs of every student.

About the Role

This is a fantastic opportunity to teach English Language across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, including GCSE English and alternative literacy-based qualifications. You will be responsible for planning and delivering inspiring and inclusive English lessons that develop reading, writing, speaking and listening skills for students who may find mainstream approaches to literacy challenging.

Using creative, differentiated strategies, you'll deliver a curriculum that is both accessible and ambitious, helping to build confidence, engagement, and functional literacy in every learner.

You'll work closely with experienced support staff, the SENCO, and the Senior Leadership Team to provide consistent academic and emotional support, ensuring that every student can make progress and feel successful.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, deliver and assess high-quality English lessons to students in KS3 and KS4, including GCSE English Language and other literacy qualifications (e.g., Functional Skills, Entry Level Certificates)
  • Differentiate content and teaching strategies to meet the wide-ranging needs of learners with SEN and SEMH
  • Foster a classroom environment that supports a love of reading and writing while promoting confidence in communication
  • Embed practical literacy strategies to improve everyday language skills and ensure learning is relevant to students' experiences
  • Use behaviour management approaches such as restorative practice, clear routines, and positive reinforcement to support engagement
  • Monitor and track progress, providing clear and constructive feedback to students and communicating effectively with parents and carers
  • Work collaboratively with the SENCO, pastoral team and support staff to deliver tailored interventions and uphold high expectations for all learners
  • Support students' personal development by promoting emotional wellbeing, self-expression, and resilience through literacy

To be successful in this SEND English Teacher role, you will need:

  • QTS or QTLS status
  • Recent experience teaching English to students aged 11-16, including those with special educational needs
  • Experience preparing students for GCSE English Language and/or other KS4 literacy qualifications
  • A full employment/education history detailed in your CV, with any gaps clearly explained
  • An Enhanced DBS Disclosure and suitable professional references
  • The legal right to work in the UK
