SEND English Teacher – Autism Base (KS3/KS4) – Canning Town Location: Canning Town, East London Start Date: September 2025 Salary: MPS/UPS + SEN Allowance Contract Type: Full-time, Term Time Only Employer: Axcis Education – Specialist in SEND Recruitment Overview: Axcis Education is working in partnership with a well-established specialist autism provision in Canning Town to recruit a qualified English Teacher for a Key Stage 3/4 autism base. This full-time teaching role begins in September 2025 and will involve delivering an adapted English curriculum to pupils aged 11–16 with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and additional speech, language, and communication needs. Most students are working below age-related expectations and benefit from small class sizes, structure, and tailored support strategies. This is a rewarding opportunity for a passionate educator with a strong interest in inclusive teaching, communication support, and autism education. Key Responsibilities: Plan and deliver differentiated English lessons to small classes of up to 6 students Use visual timetables, structured routines, and scaffolded materials to support learning Adapt teaching to meet individual Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) Support students in developing functional literacy and communication skills Work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants, Speech & Language Therapists, and the SENCO Contribute to annual reviews and regular progress reporting Maintain a calm, consistent learning environment that promotes independence and self-esteem About the School: A highly respected specialist provision within a mainstream secondary school Dedicated autism base with excellent resources, including sensory rooms and communication tools Strong team ethos with experienced support staff and leadership Students follow a semi-formal and formal curriculum, including functional English and entry-level qualifications Easy access via public transport The Ideal Candidate Will Have: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent Experience working with students with autism and communication needs (school or specialist setting) A solid understanding of differentiation and sensory processing strategies An inclusive teaching style and a positive behaviour management approach Strong communication and team collaboration skills A commitment to promoting independence, wellbeing, and student voice Desirable (but not essential): Experience teaching in a specialist SEND or autism provision Familiarity with TEACCH, PECS, Makaton, or visual supports Knowledge of or training in trauma-informed or neurodiversity-affirming practices Why Work with Axcis Education?
