Job summary

Quantum Scholars is seeking a patient, experienced SEND English Tutor to provide personalised one-to-one tuition to a secondary learner in Wokingham, with potential involvement in Classics as needed.

The role focuses on developing reading, writing, comprehension and exam skills, adapting lessons to SEND needs, and building confidence and resilience. In-person role with safeguarding commitment and DBS checks.

Qualifications

• Strong English knowledge at secondary level.

Quantum Scholars are looking for a patient, supportive and experienced SEND English Tutor to provide personalised one-to-one tuition to a young person in Wokingham.

We are particularly interested in tutors who have strong English subject knowledge and are also able to support with Classics. The successful tutor will be confident adapting their teaching style, pace and resources to meet the individual needs of a learner with SEND, while making lessons engaging, accessible and relevant to their interests.

The role will focus on supporting academic progress, confidence and engagement, while helping the young person overcome any barriers they may experience with learning.

Experience supporting learners with SEND and/or SEMH needs would be highly desirable.

This is an in-person tutoring role and is not online work.

The Role May Involve

• Providing personalised one-to-one English tuition to a secondary-aged learner.
• Supporting the learner with English language and literature.
• Supporting Classics where appropriate, depending on the tutor’s subject knowledge and experience.

• Supporting the study of classical literature, history, mythology and related topics where appropriate.
• Planning engaging and appropriately challenging lessons across English and Classics.

• Identifying gaps in knowledge and supporting the learner to develop key skills.
• Building confidence and encouraging a positive attitude towards learning.
• Using the learner’s interests to make lessons engaging and meaningful.
• Supporting GCSE preparation and exam technique where appropriate.
• Helping the learner develop greater independence and resilience.
• Creating a calm, supportive and positive learning environment.
• Monitoring progress and providing appropriate feedback.
• Building a positive and trusting relationship with the young person.

Essential Requirements

• Strong English subject knowledge at secondary level.
• Ability to support Classics, ideally with relevant subject knowledge or experience.
