Birch Wood Area Special School is a dual site school with a strong vision for achieving the best outcomes possible for children with a range of special educational needs. Students may have a diagnosis of Autism and or ADHD. Students here have access to a range of specialist facilities in a positive, communication rich environment. Birch Wood Vale (BWV) is our 11-19 school for students with moderate learning and cognition difficulties and ASC. We also have a specialist Autism provision- Ashton House, based at this site. BWV caters for students who will eventually be capable of achieving entry level qualifications, full GCSEs or a range of vocational qualifications in a nurturing and supportive environment that is sensitive to their needs and aspirational for their futures.
Birch Wood is a well-resourced school, with high staff to pupil ratios in the pleasant market town of Melton Mowbray. We are a small (242 students), caring school community with high aspirations for all our learners. Due to the range of students we work with there are always opportunities for committed teaching professionals to expand their experiences.
We provide a broad, enriched and expanding curriculum which is based on National Curriculum guidelines. Outcomes for all pupils are consistently high and we were judged to be a good school in our most recent Section 8 Ofsted inspection in June 2024. However, the evidence gathered suggests that the inspection grade might be outstanding if a graded (section 5) inspection were carried out.
We have an opportunity for an enthusiastic and inspirational class teacher who has a passion for teaching children with special educational needs.
The successful candidate will teach students with learning and cognition needs with a range of complexity. You will work alongside a team of highly motivated support staff.
