A leading education provider seeks an Academic Mentor in Bristol to support students with EHCPs. The role focuses on enhancing academic attainment through targeted intervention, with a clear pathway to a permanent position and opportunities for professional development.
Elmtree Learning Partnership is a multi-site Alternative Education Provision service, serving primary and secondary-aged pupils with EHCPs relating mainly to ASC, SEMH with their main headquarters based in Weston Super Mare. They operate a ‘revolving-door’ offering whereby students stay at the provision for up to 18 weeks, either on a full-time or part-time basis before returning to mainstream education or attending a special school. Student places are funded by local school or local authority referral. We are currently recruiting for their new site which will be run in partnership with a well-established local independent education provider. The new site will be based in the Failand area of Bristol and will support learners focusing on GCSE and entry A Level (AS level) exams. The site will also offer additional vocational study options including outdoor learning, construction, computing and other extra-curricular subjects as a main study focus, according to the learners' ability/interest.
The role of the academic mentor will be supporting students that have an EHCP and generally have good academic attainment however may struggle in a particular subject area, or with particular tasks. The focus for the academic mentor will be to offer intensive intervention on the learners' key area of weakness. It's anticipated that the general profile of learner attending will mostly need encouragement & academic support more than emotional support. Equally it's important to monitor, empathise and support & guide pastorally as well. The role will require someone who themselves is more academically orientated and able to offer capacity to support with any subject.
Applicants with previous experience of having worked with and supported learners with additional needs relating to SEMH & trauma who may have other needs relating to ASC / ASD may be best suited to this role, provided they meet the ability to support learning to the required standard.
