Job description

A well-respected and inclusive secondary school in Weston-super-Mare is seeking a skilled and experienced SENCO to lead and develop its provision for students with special educational needs and disabilities. This full-time, permanent post starts in September 2025.

The school is committed to ensuring all learners succeed, regardless of their starting points. It offers a supportive leadership team, a collaborative SEND department, and excellent training and development. The SENCO will be a key figure in shaping inclusive practice and working closely with staff, students, and families.

Key responsibilities as SENCO include:

  • Leading SEND provision across the school and managing EHCP processes

  • Coordinating interventions, access arrangements, and inclusion strategies

  • Supporting and training classroom staff in adaptive teaching approaches

  • Managing a team of dedicated Learning Support Assistants

  • Working with families, local authorities, and external specialists

  • Monitoring progress of SEND learners and reporting outcomes to SLT

The ideal SENCO will:

  • Hold QTS and the NASENCO qualification (or be willing to gain it)

  • Be highly organised and an excellent communicator

  • Have deep knowledge of SEND legislation and best practices

  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to educational equity and inclusion
