Position: Early Years Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO)
Location: West Midlands
Pay rate: £30 per hour
We are recruiting an Early Years SENCO based in the West Midlands. In this role, you will support settings to effectively meet the needs of children with additional needs, ensuring parents receive the necessary information, advice, and support to participate in the SEN decision-making process. You will involve parents closely and incorporate their insights into actions taken.
The successful candidate must have experience in improving practice to support children with SEND in early years settings. Recent experience as an EY SENCO is desirable. This role requires an immediate start, and the candidate must have a full UK driving licence with business insurance.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
- Educated to degree level (or equivalent) or relevant experience within early years or related children’s services.
- Evidence of ongoing professional development.
- Recent experience as an Early Years SENCO.
- Knowledge of strategies and interventions to support young children with special educational needs.
- Experience supporting practitioners to deliver outcomes for children with additional needs.
- Knowledge of legislation and legal requirements related to Early Years.
- Understanding of statutory requirements for Early Years.
- Knowledge of the national agenda for Early Years and SEND.
Role Responsibilities
- Provide effective advice and guidance to early years settings, empowering practitioners to create inclusive learning environments.
- Support settings to develop and improve inclusive practices, promoting the best outcomes for children.
- Design and deliver bespoke training tailored to the needs of settings across the county, collaborating with multi-agency professionals.
- Build stronger links between settings, services within the Local Authority, and the wider community, including health, social care, and charitable organizations.
- Represent the service in forums and panels to advocate for settings and children, sharing intelligence appropriately.
- Support area-based initiatives to accelerate progress for children with SEN, under the guidance of the Team Leader.
- Assist in planning future provisions and projects to raise attainment for young children with SEN.
- Investigate and address concerns of inequity or discrimination professionally, focusing on restorative practices.
- Ensure children's safety by sharing information with appropriate agencies and taking timely action according to policies.
- Adhere to County Council policies and promote equal opportunities at all times.
