KS1 Teacher and Part-time SENCo responsibilities - Southampton

September 2025

Pay – M1-M6

Location - Southampton

Hours - 8am – 4pm

A large 3 form entry school is Southampton is looking for a Year 1 teacher with the qualifications to support as a Part time SENCO.

About the School:

Supply Desk are working with a welcoming and supportive large infant school in central Southampton. Due to maternity, this school are looking for a Year 1 teacher who can also act as a part time SENCO for the summer term. The school is Ofsted rated “Good” and can offer a warm and welcoming staff as well as a recently renovated establishment.

About the role:

Key functions of the role:

  • To implement and deliver an appropriate, balanced and differentiated curriculum for all pupils incorporating the KS1 National Curriculum
  • To facilitate, support and monitor the overall progress and development of all students
  • To be able to work as an independent SENCO 3 days a week
  • To foster a learning environment which provides pupils with the opportunity to fulfil their individual potential
  • To share in the development of the school curriculum, teaching materials, methods of teaching and assessment and review

Responsibilities:

  • To teach pupils according to their educational needs, including supporting early development of literacy and maths
  • Identify clear teaching objective, play and exploration opportunities
  • Setting high expectations of pupils’ learning, motivation and awe and wonder
  • Setting clear targets for pupils’ learning development
  • To direct and supervise Teaching Assistants within the classroom
  • To cooperate and liaise with other professionals, including colleagues and external agencies
  • To set high expectations in terms of behaviour and maintain a good standard of discipline through well focused teaching methods and implementing the school behaviour policy
