Job description

Teacher Active is proud to be working with Stoke-on-Trent City Council, Alternative Provisions, and Independent Schools that support vulnerable children with SEMH needs, which vary from challenging behaviour, bipolar disorder/mood swings to MLD.

As a SEMH Teacher/Instructor/Tutor, you will work in a residential setting with students who have Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs (SEMH). Your responsibilities include planning, preparing, and delivering educational material to students and providing support with their GCSEs.

You will regularly create reports and monitor students' learning and behaviour on a weekly basis.

The ideal SEMH Teacher/Instructor/Tutor will have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and at least 6 months of previous SEND/SEMH experience
  • Flexibility to cover classes at short notice due to staff sickness or training
  • Ability to plan lessons independently, although lessons are often pre-planned
  • Skills to adapt tasks to meet individual children's needs
  • Effective behaviour management skills
  • Good communication skills with internal staff
