We are working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Plymouth to recruit a dedicated SEN Support Assistant to work one-to-one with a pupil with Global Developmental Delay. This is a mornings-only role, supporting a child with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and an intimate care plan.

About the Role:

You will be providing tailored support to help the pupil access learning and daily routines. The role will include:

  • Supporting communication and interaction needs
  • Assisting with personal care in line with the pupil’s intimate care plan
  • Implementing EHCP targets in collaboration with the class teacher and SENCO
  • Creating a nurturing and safe environment to promote independence and confidence
  • Using visual aids, sensory strategies and structured routines to support engagement

Requirements:

To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Experience working with children with Special Educational Needs (SEN), ideally with pupils who have global developmental delay or similar learning needs
  • Confidence and sensitivity in supporting intimate care needs, in line with the pupil’s care plan
  • Understanding of EHCPs and how to implement targeted support strategies within a school setting
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with teaching staff, SENCOs and external professionals
  • Patience, empathy and a nurturing approach, essential for building trust and promoting pupil wellbeing
  • A valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service is highly desirableAlternatively, candidates must be willing to apply for a new DBS through Reed Education (cost: £49.50)
  • This role is not open to candidates seeking overseas sponsorship
