Job description

SEN Teaching Assistant - Hounslow


Contract type: Permanent (contracted positions may also be available for the right candidate)
Start date: September 2025 (earlier starts may be available)
Hours: 8.30am - 4pm approximately
Salary: 22,500 - 26,000


SEN Teaching Assistant - responsibilities

As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with students who have a range of special educational needs, including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.

  1. Providing one-to-one and small group support to students in the classroom (multiple subject areas).
  2. Assisting with the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and EHCPs (Education, Health, and Care Plans).
  3. Supporting students with their academic, social, and emotional development.
  4. Helping to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  5. Collaborating with teachers, SENCOs, and other professionals to ensure the best outcomes for students.
  6. Encouraging independence and confidence in students.

SEN Teaching Assistant - requirements
  1. A 2:1 or above from a top UK university - Psychology graduates are desirable
  2. Has experience working with children or young people with SEN, ideally in a school setting
  3. Possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  4. Patient, empathetic, and resilient, with a positive attitude
  5. Has a good understanding of SEN strategies and interventions
  6. Proactive, adaptable, and able to work effectively as part of a team
  7. Knowledge of Makaton or PECs is desirable
  8. Considering a career in teaching or Educational Psychology
