Job summary

Supply Desk are currently seeking a caring, patient and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive school in the Harpenden area. The successful candidate will provide dedicated support to pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs, helping them to access learning, build confidence and develop both academically and personally.

Qualifications

• Previous experience supporting children with SEN is preferred.
• Understanding of SEN needs and appropriate support strategies.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• Positive and consistent approach to behaviour management.
• Genuine passion for education and supporting children and young people.
• Good safeguarding understanding.
• Experience in a primary or secondary school is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils with SEN including ASD, ADHD, speech and language needs.
• Provide tailored 1:1 and small-group support according to individual pupil requirements.
• Assist pupils in accessing the curriculum and participating fully in classroom activities.
• Encourage positive behaviour, emotional regulation and social development.
• Monitor and communicate information regarding pupil progress, engagement and wellbeing.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, parents/carers and external professionals.
• Adapt support approaches and strategies to meet individual learning and behavioural needs.
• Encourage pupils to develop independence, confidence and resilience.
• Help create and maintain a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment.
