Job summary

Horizon Care and Education is recruiting an SEN Teaching Assistant for Great Howarth School in Rochdale. You will support pupils aged 7–18 with complex needs, helping with educational and social development and contributing to inclusive learning.

You will work 1:1 with some students and assist teachers, using strategies to maintain a positive, engaging classroom, both inside and outside lessons. Great Howarth is expanding and values dedicated, resilient staff.

Qualifications

• Experience of working with children who have behavioural support needs and knowledge of behaviour management techniques.
• Ability to provide learning and social development support in classroom and social settings.
• Willingness to work towards a recognised teaching assistant qualification.

Responsibilities

• Assist students in their educational and social development.
• Provide support inside and outside of the classroom to enable engagement in activities.
• Set up activities and adapt environment using technology as needed.
• Support teachers by engaging with students and providing learning assistance while maintaining a positive classroom tone.
• Provide 1:1 support to students who need extra help learning.

What you'll get to do:

• Assisting students in their educational and social development.
• Provide support inside and outside of the classroom, so they can fully engage in a wide range of activities.
• Help to set up activities for students, using technology or adjusting the environment to suit their needs.
• Support teachers, engaging with students, providing learning support, and reacting to situations in the classroom in a positive, non-disruptive manner.
• Working 1:1 with some students, to give them the time and support they need to learn.

What we're looking for from you:

• Experience of working with children who have behavioural support needs with a good knowledge of behavioural management techniques and strategies.
• Grade C or above GCSE in English and Math, or L1/2 equivalent functional skills qualification.
• Hold or be willing to work towards a recognised teaching assistant qualification.
