Do you have a natural aptitude for calmly managing challenging behaviours and providing the essential structure that allows young people to flourish academically and socially?

If you are seeking a career that blends challenge with profound reward, we invite your immediate application!

We are seeking a proactive and empathetic SEN Pupil Support Lead / Teaching Assistant (TA) to become an integral member of our successful partner SEN school near Colchester.

This is a key, front-line position where you will deliver personalised intervention and hands‑on support. You will be working with a diverse group of pupils who have significant needs, including Moderate to Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD), physical support needs, and specific emotional or sensory challenges. Your consistent support will be paramount in creating a stable, secure, and focused learning environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide essential, individualised assistance, helping students maintain concentration, cope with sensory inputs, and engage effectively with their highly tailored curriculum.
  • Partner with the class teacher and specialist staff to adapt resources and manage the classroom environment to meet the specific learning and physical needs of the pupils.
  • Skillfully implement established support and behaviour management plans, including the use of communication aids and approved physical interventions where necessary.
  • Serve as a consistent positive role model and advocate, fostering independence, self‑esteem, and appropriate social skills.
  • Accurately track, observe, and document student engagement, behaviour incidents, and academic milestones to inform comprehensive progress reviews.
  • Assist pupils with personal care, mobility, and hygiene needs as required, carrying out all tasks with the utmost discretion, dignity, and sensitivity.
Candidate Profile
  • Extensive, verifiable experience supporting children or young adults with complex SEN, ideally within a structured educational or care setting, is required.
  • A naturally patient, resilient, and non‑reactive temperament, coupled with a passionate commitment to specialist education.
  • The proven ability to establish strong, professional, and positive working alliances with students, staff, and parents quickly.
  • Excellent observational skills, strong attention to detail, and a collaborative approach to teamwork.
  • A current Enhanced Child DBS certificate on the update service (or the willingness to undergo an immediate application).
Why Work With Us
  • A competitive and reliable daily rate of £90 - £110.
  • The opportunity to thrive within a highly collaborative specialist school environment near Colchester, known for its commitment to staff welfare and ongoing development.
  • Access to comprehensive specialist training (CPD) tailored to supporting complex learning and physical needs.
  • A career that offers immense fulfilment by directly contributing to the confidence, life skills, and educational success of vulnerable young people.
  • Our generous £300 ‘Refer a Colleague’ bonus scheme.
