Job summary

Randstad Education is seeking empathetic Level 2/3 Teaching Assistants to support pupils with additional learning needs in Blackpool and the Fylde Coast.

Opportunities include November short-term cover and January long-term contracts across primary schools and SEN provisions. You will guide 1:1 and small groups, tailor activities to diverse needs, and collaborate with teachers and specialists to ensure inclusive learning.

Qualifications

• Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification.
• Enhanced Child DBS on Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
• Direct PAYE payroll knowledge or experience preferred.
• Previous experience supporting primary-aged pupils with additional needs.

Responsibilities

• Provide dedicated 1:1 or small-group assistance to pupils with diverse needs.
• Adapt classroom tasks and activities to make the curriculum accessible.
• Support the implementation of IEPs and EHCPs.
• Use positive reinforcement and de-escalation techniques to support emotional regulation.
• Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and parents to monitor development and wellbeing.
• Assist during transitions, breaks and structured activities to maintain a safe learning space.

January Long-Term Contracts: Guarantee stability for the new calendar year by locking in a dedicated contract, providing continuous, reassuring support to a specific pupil or class throughout the term.

Your Responsibilities as an SEN Teaching Assistant

Provide dedicated 1:1 or small-group assistance to pupils with diverse needs (including Autism, ADHD, SEMH, Speech & Language, or global developmental delay).

Adapt classroom tasks, worksheets, and practical activities to make the curriculum accessible and engaging.

Support the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

Utilize positive reinforcement, sensory strategies, and proactive de-escalation techniques to support emotional regulation.

Build trusting, supportive relationships with pupils, acting as a steady, encouraging role model.

Collaborate closely with class teachers, SENCOs, visiting specialists, and parents to monitor developmental milestones and well-being.

Assist during transitions, playground breaks, and structured activities to ensure a safe, inclusive learning space.

Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or substantial direct experience supporting children with SEN).

Previous experience supporting primary-aged pupils with additional needs.

High levels of patience, empathy, resilience, and adaptability.

Confidence in managing complex or challenging behaviours using calm, positive strategies.

An Enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to process one through Randstad).
