The Role: Making a Difference, Every Day

As a Bank Staff Teaching Assistant, you'll be an essential part of the school community, providing crucial support where it's needed most for students with various SEN requirements. This is a flexible, 'bank staff' position, perfect for those looking for varied work schedules within term time.

Your Impact: Key Responsibilities and Activities

You won't just be an extra pair of hands; you'll be a mentor, a motivator, and a pillar of support for students with diverse SEN needs, including those with SEMH challenges.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Supporting Teachers: Assisting the classroom teacher to ensure lessons run smoothly and are inclusive for all learners.
  • Facilitating Learning: Helping students with varied needs access and engage with a differentiated curriculum.
  • Cultivating Positivity: Actively contributing to a safe, welcoming, and productive school environment.
Specific Activities Include:
  • Targeted Support: Providing one-on-one or small group support to help students with their learning objectives, managing tasks, and overcoming academic or social-emotional challenges.
  • Differentiated Assistance: Working with students across the SEN spectrum, adapting support methods to individual EHC plans.
  • Classroom Management: Assisting in maintaining a focused and calm atmosphere, supporting behavioural and learning strategies set by the teacher.
  • Student Well-being: Being a trusted point of contact, assisting with the pastoral care and overall well-being of the students, especially those facing SEMH difficulties.
What You'll Bring: Skills and Experience We Value

If you have a genuine passion for education and a drive to support young people with SEN, particularly those who face SEMH challenges, we want to hear from you!

Essential Qualities (The 'Must-Haves'):
  • Patience: The ability to remain calm and understanding in challenging situations, recognising that learning and progress can take time.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Clear, empathetic, and effective interaction with students (including non-verbal communication), staff, and parents.
  • Empathy: A deep understanding and sensitivity toward the unique learning styles and needs of students with SEN/SEMH.
  • Teamwork: The ability to work collaboratively and effectively as part of a dedicated school team, including working with therapists and specialists.
  • Experience: Previous experience working with children, particularly those with SEN/SEMH, or in any educational setting (formal or informal).
