Job summary

Create Education is seeking an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant or HLTA to support a pupil with Down's syndrome in a Dagenham school on a long-term basis. You will provide dedicated 1:1 support and tailor activities for early primary learning.

Although the setting is secondary, the pupil requires early primary learning support; candidates with EYFS/KS1 experience and a patient, proactive approach are encouraged. Makaton is a bonus.

Qualifications

• Experience as SEN TA, HLTA or Learning Support Assistant.
• Experience supporting pupils with Down's syndrome or additional needs.
• Primary school background, EYFS/KS1 desirable.
• Strong foundation in early phonics, literacy and numeracy interventions.
• Patient, nurturing and proactive approach; able to adapt activities.

Responsibilities

• Provide consistent 1:1 support for a pupil with Down's syndrome in a secondary setting.
• Deliver engaging activities at Reception/Year 1 level to support early literacy.
• Support early literacy skills including letter recognition and phonics.
• Develop basic numeracy skills and early mathematical understanding.
• Adapt materials to suit individual pace and ability.
• Use visual resources and communication strategies to promote engagement.
• Encourage independence, confidence and progress with SEND team guidance.
