Job description

Contract Type: Full-Time

GSL Education are seeking a compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a SEN Secondary School team located in York, North Yorkshire, starting as soon as possible. As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will provide tailored support to secondary school students with additional learning needs.

The school is for secondary aged students which emphasises on SEN children. Every student at the School has a learning disability, and some of them also require extra special education services due to physical or sensory needs. The school provides its students with a customized, individualized curriculum that is in line with their needs and goals and closely related to the outcomes listed in each child's Education, Health, and Care Plan. The curriculums at the school have been created after four years of intensive research into SEND as well as visits, research, and interactions with exceptional settings.

SEN Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Offer 1:1 and small group support in and out of the classroom.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and external agencies to track and communicate the student's progress.
  • Assist with classroom tasks and promote engagement in lessons.
  • Implement strategies to support the student's emotional, social, and academic development.
  • Encourage independence while maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment.

SEN Teaching Assistant Requirements:

  • Right to work in the UK.
  • A genuine passion for supporting students with SEN.
  • Experience working with SEN students, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Hold an enhanced Child Workforce DBS, registered on the update service, or be willing to obtain one through GSL Education.
  • Knowledge of SEN, including ASC, ADHD, SEMH, or other learning needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
