Job description

Long-term Teachers is working in partnership with a fantastic school to recruit a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 to start on a full time ongoing basis after

This is a varied and rewarding opportunity for someone passionate about supporting children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) to thrive both academically and socially. The successful candidate will provide one-to-one support for pupils with additional needs, while also offering general classroom assistance to help create a positive, inclusive and engaging learning environment. You'll usually work 1:1 or in small groups, helping pupils access lessons and making sure they don't get left behind. Sometimes this means breaking work down into smaller steps, using visual aids, or giving extra explanations. Other times it means helping with daily routines, building confidence, or managing transitions between activities.

No two days will be the same in this flexible role. You will work across different year groups, adapting your approach to meet the individual needs of pupils and supporting teachers to ensure every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide tailored one-to-one support for pupils with Special Educational Needs.
  • Support pupils with their learning, communication, emotional regulation and social development.
  • Assist the class teacher with the delivery of engaging and inclusive lessons.
  • Provide general classroom support across KS1 and KS2 as required.
  • Adapt activities and learning resources to meet individual needs and abilities.
  • Promote positive behaviour and encourage pupils to develop independence and confidence.
  • Help maintain a safe, supportive and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, teachers and other support staff.
The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Patient, caring and passionate about supporting children with additional needs.
  • Experienced in working with children, ideally within an SEN or mainstream school setting.
  • Flexible and adaptable, with the ability to work across different year groups.
  • Confident in supporting pupils with a range of learning, behavioural and emotional needs.
  • A strong communicator who can work effectively as part of a team.
  • Proactive, reliable and committed to helping every child succeed.

Previous experience as an SEN Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant would be advantageous. However, a positive attitude, a willingness to learn and a genuine passion for supporting children are equally important.
