Position: SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Sheffield, South Yorkshire
Contract: Full-time, temporary (ongoing - potential temp to perm)
School: SEN schools across Sheffield
Pay: £88.94 - £100 per day (dependent upon experience, training, qualifications)

About the Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you'll be providing vital classroom and personal support to pupils with a range of additional needs, including autism, communication difficulties, sensory needs, and social, emotional, and mental health challenges. You will work closely with teachers and other professionals to create a positive, inclusive learning environment where every child can thrive.

This is an exciting opportunity to work within specialist SEN schools across Sheffield, supporting children who need patience, understanding, and encouragement to reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support pupils with special educational needs on a 1:1 and small group basis.
  • Assist with personal care, mobility, and communication as required.
  • Help deliver tailored learning activities under the guidance of the class teacher.
  • Encourage engagement, independence, and confidence in all pupils.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and therapists.
  • Promote inclusion and positive behaviour in all learning settings.
  • Safeguard and protect the wellbeing of all pupils in your care.
Candidate Requirements
  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEN (essential).
  • Experience working in an SEN school or specialist provision (desirable).
  • Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (advantageous).
  • Understanding of autism, sensory needs, or emotional/behavioural difficulties.
  • A calm, patient, and nurturing approach.
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply).
