Your new company

Hays Recruitment are proud to be supporting an SEND school in Southport that supports pupils with a multi-diagnosis of ASD, non-verbal and learning difficulties/disabilities as they are looking to appoint motivated and reliable teaching assistants from September. This school is looking to appoint on a full-time basis, and will go permanent for the right candidate.

Your new role

As a teaching assistant within this school, you will be supporting pupils with complex SEN. You will have the full support of an experienced team of teachers and multidisciplinary educational professionals, and you will play a vital part in the pupils' access to education. You will take a pupil-centred approach to education to ensure that the pupils' individual needs, educational requirements and emotional state are met in a safe and inclusive learning environment. As you will be supporting complex SEN you will be required to implement a myriad of behaviour management strategies including traffic light systems, de-escalation and distraction. Other duties will include but may not be limited to Makaton/PECs to communicate, interventions, boosters, assisted toileting, general supervision during break and lunch times.

What you'll need to succeed

To be considered in your application, you must have full "Right to Work" in the UK as well as extensive referenceable experience working with complex SEN, as well as:

  • Experience supporting children/young people with complex SEN
  • Team Teach trained
  • Expert knowledge of ASD support
  • Experience using PECs and/or Makaton
