Salary/Rate: Dependent on experience
Contract: Permanent or long-term
Start Date: ASAP
We are recruiting on behalf of a valued specialist school in Guildford for an experienced SEN Teacher to lead a Year 7 cohort within a predominantly autism-focused setting.
This is an exciting opportunity for a teacher who understands that high expectations and specialist autism practice can sit alongside one another.
The pupils are generally working around 2-3 years below age-related academic expectations, but they are still secondary-aged young people. The successful teacher will therefore be able to adapt the curriculum without making learning feel unnecessarily young or reducing expectations.
You will take responsibility for teaching a Year 7 cohort through a formal curriculum, adapting teaching and learning to meet the individual needs of autistic pupils.
You will be responsible for:
You will ideally have experience working with autistic pupils within a specialist or mainstream setting and be confident adapting teaching without automatically lowering expectations.
We are particularly interested in teachers who understand the importance of treating secondary-aged pupils as young people, while still providing the level of structure, support and adaptation they need to succeed.
The school is developing its specialist provision and offers an opportunity for an experienced SEN Teacher to contribute to the development of a strong, engaging and appropriately ambitious curriculum.
If you are passionate about autism, adaptive teaching and helping pupils achieve more without compromising who they are, we'd love to hear from you.
