About the Role:
Our client, a forward-thinking and inclusive secondary academy in Mitcham, is seeking to appoint a Specialist SEN Teacher to lead on KS3 Literacy intervention programmes including Phonics, Lexia, and Hackney Literature. This is a fantastic opportunity for a dedicated and enthusiastic SEN specialist who is passionate about improving outcomes for students with additional needs.
As a key member of the SEND team, you will raise standards of attainment and achievement for targeted groups of students (including SEN, EAL, and underachieving pupils), monitor progress, and ensure personalised learning approaches are delivered consistently across the curriculum.
Main Responsibilities:
Plan and deliver high-quality KS3 literacy intervention programmes (Phonics, Lexia, Hackney Literature)
Raise attainment and progress of SEN, EAL, and underachieving students across subjects
Deliver speech and language interventions to support communication and interaction development
Monitor student progress, particularly those on the SEND register
Design and implement a personalised and relevant curriculum for students on alternative pathways
Work collaboratively with teaching and support staff to ensure effective differentiation and targeted support
Plan, prepare and deliver interventions, assess impact, and report on student progress
Support the wider teaching team by implementing strategies advised by external professionals (e.g. SALT, OT)
Promote a positive and inclusive learning environment with consistent behaviour management strategies
Contribute to whole-school SEND development and best practice sharing
What We Are Looking For:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Proven experience teaching SEN learners, particularly students with ASD, SLCN, and complex cognitive needs
Strong background in literacy intervention programmes (ideally Lexia, Hackney Literature, and Phonics)
Experience teaching speech and language interventions
Understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and best practice in differentiation and inclusive teaching
Ability to work with external professionals to implement individualised support stra
