Job description

We are recruiting a Science Teacher for an independent specialist day school near Newark, supporting pupils aged 9–17 with a range of additional needs, including SEMH, autism (ASC), ADHD and attachment difficulties.

We’re looking for someone who can think outside the box, bring learning to life and adapt their approach to engage pupils who may have struggled in traditional education. We’re more interested in finding the right person for the role than someone who simply ticks every box on paper. If you’re patient, resilient, creative and passionate about helping young people succeed, we’d love to hear from you.

The Role
  • Plan and deliver engaging, creative Science lessons tailored to individual needs.
  • Adapt teaching methods to support different abilities, learning styles and additional needs.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships and create a safe, inclusive learning environment.
  • Support pupils’ academic progress, emotional wellbeing and personal development.
  • Promote positive behaviour, follow safeguarding procedures and work closely with colleagues, families and external professionals.
About You
  • QTS qualified, with ideal experience in teaching Science.
  • A creative thinker who can make learning engaging and accessible.
  • Calm, patient and confident in supporting pupils with social, emotional and behavioural needs.
  • Able to build relationships with young people who may be anxious, disengaged or need additional support.
  • Committed to inclusive education and helping every pupil reach their potential.

Experience in a specialist SEN setting is desirable, particularly with SEMH and ASC, but applications from mainstream teachers are welcome. A SEND qualification is an advantage, not essential. SEN/trauma informed training would be desirable too.

Above all, we want someone with the right attitude, personality and willingness to make a difference. You don’t need to have worked in a specialist school before if you have the creativity, compassion and commitment to succeed.

What’s on Offer?
  • Competitive salary and enhanced pension contributions for qualified teachers.
  • Comprehensive induction and ongoing training and professional development.
  • A supportive, passionate team focused on improving outcomes for young people.
  • Employee wellbeing support, counselling and life assurance.
  • Cycle to work scheme, employee discounts and other staff benefits.
