Job description

SEN Teacher

Reception Class

South Croydon

September 2025 Start

Join a Creative, Nurturing and Specialist Environment - Inspire Every Step

We are proud to be supporting a vibrant and well-resourced specialist SEN school in South Croydon, currently seeking a warm, imaginative and committed SEN Teacher to join theirteam in September 2025

The school caters for pupils aged 4-19 with a range of complex needs, including Moderate (MLD), Severe (SLD) and Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD). Early Years classes are rich in sensory, play-based and practical learning opportunities, designed around a topic-based curriculum which reflects the interests and developmental needs of the children.

This role is based in one of the school's Early Years classes where pupils from Reception through to Year 2 are grouped by cognitive and developmental levels, rather than chronological age. Each class has a very high staff-to-pupil ratio, with most pupils receiving 1:1 teaching assistant support, allowing for truly individualised teaching and care.

Lessons are taught both indoors and outdoors, with strong support from a multi-disciplinary team including speech and language therapists, physiotherapists and occupational therapists. A wide range of communication methods are used-including signing, symbols, communication books, devices, and objects of reference-to ensure every child can express themselves and engage meaningfully with the world around them.

The Ideal Candidate Will Be:

  • A qualified teacher (QTS, EYTS or QTLS), with experience in EYFS, SEN, or primary teaching
  • Skilled in delivering creative, play-based, and sensory learning experiences
  • Confident working with children with complex needs, including non-verbal pupils and those requiring high levels of support
  • Committed to a child-centred, individualised and inclusive approach to education
  • An excellent communicator, able to collaborate with families, therapists, and support staff
  • Organised, reflective and passionate about early learning in specialist settings
