Job summary

Strawberry Lane School in Durham is seeking an enthusiastic SEN Teacher to support pupils aged 11-19 with autism and complex needs in a brand-new specialist setting. You will deliver engaging, personalised learning and work closely with a multidisciplinary team to foster independence and a love of learning.

You will plan and adapt lessons, monitor progress, and contribute to school life while upholding safeguarding and inclusive practices.

Qualifications

  • Hold QTS and a relevant degree.
  • Experience with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and complex needs.
  • Passion for inclusive education and helping every child achieve potential.
  • Ability to personalise learning to meet individual needs.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, families and colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, creative lessons for pupils with ASC and complex needs.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to maximise engagement and progress.
  • Create a calm, inclusive classroom where pupils feel safe and supported.
  • Monitor, assess and celebrate pupil progress to inform learning.
  • Teach across curriculum areas to provide a broad educational experience.
  • Collaborate with teaching assistants, therapists, families and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and whole‑school improvement.
  • Uphold safeguarding, wellbeing and inclusive practice.
