Job description

SENDhelp is recruiting a qualified SEN Teacher for an all-ages specialist school in the Crawley area. This role is suitable for an experienced teacher who has previously taught children or young people with special educational needs and can adapt learning for pupils with a range of abilities.

Due to the school’s remote location and the limited availability of public transport, candidates must hold a full driving licence and have access to their own car. Qualified Teacher Status and previous SEN teaching experience are also essential.

The role

As an SEN Teacher, you will plan and deliver structured, engaging lessons that are adapted to pupils’ individual learning, communication and developmental needs.

The school supports children and young people across a wide age range, so applications are welcomed from teachers with experience in early years, primary, secondary or post-16 education. The successful teacher will be confident differentiating lessons, assessing progress and creating a calm, consistent classroom environment.

You will work closely with Teaching Assistants, school leaders and other professionals to help pupils make meaningful progress and work towards their educational and EHCP outcomes.

What you will be doing

Planning and delivering differentiated lessons for pupils with SEN

Adapting teaching methods, activities and resources to individual needs

Assessing, recording and reporting on pupil progress

Supporting pupils to work towards personalised learning and EHCP targets

Creating a safe, structured and inclusive learning environment

Providing clear guidance to Teaching Assistants and support staff

Managing behaviour positively and consistently

Supporting pupils with communication, emotional regulation and independence

Working collaboratively with colleagues, families and relevant professionals

Maintaining accurate planning, assessment and safeguarding records

Qualified Teacher Status

Previous experience teaching children or young people with special educational needs

A full driving licence and access to a car

The ability to travel reliably to a school that is not easily accessible by public transport

Strong knowledge of differentiated and inclusive teaching

The ability to plan lessons for pupils working at different levels

Effective classroom and behaviour-management skills

Good communication and teamwork skills

A patient, reliable and consistent approach

A clear commitment to safeguarding and pupil welfare

Experience may have been gained within an early years, primary, secondary, further education or all-ages SEN setting.
