They specialise in supporting learners with autism and communication challenges, including those who are non-verbal, empowering them to achieve their best.

The Role

We are looking for a compassionate and skilled SEN Teacher to work primarily with autistic pupils with various needs. You will design and deliver highly personalised teaching strategies, incorporating alternative communication methods and sensory approaches, to support each child's learning, development, and wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver tailored lessons for autistic, non-verbal learners, adapting resources to individual needs.
  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) focused on communication, social skills, and academic progress.
  • Collaborate with speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, teaching assistants, and families to provide holistic support.
  • Use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) tools, PECS, Makaton, or other relevant systems to facilitate learning and interaction.
  • Monitor progress carefully, keeping detailed records and contributing to multidisciplinary reviews.
  • Promote an inclusive and supportive classroom atmosphere that encourages independence and confidence.
Person Specification
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with experience supporting autistic pupils, especially non-verbal learners.
  • Strong understanding of autism spectrum conditions and communication difficulties.
  • Experience with AAC or alternative communication strategies is essential.
  • Patient, creative, and flexible approach to teaching.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
