Job description

Job Title: 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant with Makaton


Looking to appoint an experienced 1:1 Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant to join the team at a Harborne-based primary school.


Tradewind are seeking an enthusiastic and committed 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to join the team in an all-accessible mainstream primary school based in Harborne. The successful candidate will support the Teacher in providing an outstanding education to a child who is pre-verbal requiring communication through Makaton.


Responsibilities:

  1. Work with the individual learner on a 1:1 basis, providing differentiated support and encouragement to meet their specific needs.
  2. Support with communication and language needs and provide 1:1 and small group support as needed to assist in developing children's communication, social, emotional, and behavioural skills.
  3. Work collaboratively with parents, carers, and other professionals to ensure the best outcomes for each child.
  4. Help to maintain accurate records and progress reports to inform ongoing planning and assessment.
  5. Provide personal care as required, ensuring the right support is given in this area.

Requirements:

  1. CACHE Level 3 Teaching Assistant for SEN qualification, or equivalent.
  2. Must be Makaton Trained and have experience working with children with pre-verbal needs.
  3. Knowledge of Primary national curriculum and how to effectively support children with Special Educational Needs in the classroom.
  4. Ability to use a range of specialist strategies and resources to support children with Special Educational Needs.
  5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with parents, carers, and other professionals.
  6. Highly organized with good record-keeping skills.
  7. Ability to work effectively as part of a team and demonstrate a positive, flexible, and proactive attitude.

This post is covered by Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) and therefore the ability to speak fluent and spoken English is an essential requirement for this role.
