The Role:
As an SEN Support Staff member, you’ll work closely with students with a variety of special educational needs within the school’s SEN unit, helping them engage with lessons, develop academically, and manage any challenges they face. You’ll be part of a supportive team, working alongside teachers and other support staff to ensure each student’s needs are met and they can thrive.
Key Responsibilities as a Teaching Assistant:
* Provide one-to-one and group support to students with special educational needs (SEN) in a mainstream secondary school setting
* Help students stay focused and engaged in class, providing additional support to ensure they can access the curriculum
* Build positive relationships with students to promote their academic success and emotional well-being
* Work collaboratively with teachers and support staff to create a nurturing learning environment
* Encourage students to develop self-confidence, resilience, and independence
* Support the classroom management and assist with students’ social development
What We’re Looking For as a Teaching Assistant:
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain concepts in a clear and engaging way
* Patience, empathy, and a natural ability to build strong relationships with students
* A passion for working with young people, particularly those with special educational needs
* Prior experience in education or working with students is beneficial but not essential
* A positive, proactive attitude and a willingness to learn and develop professionally
