SEN Outreach Tutor - Barking and Dagenham

Are you a passionate educator looking to make a real difference outside the traditional classroom setting?

Prospero Teaching is seeking a dedicated Outreach Tutor to work 1:1 with pupils across Barking and Dagenham who are currently not in mainstream education. These young learners may face a range of challenges, including SEN needs, anxiety, or long-term absence from school.

About the Role

This is an ideal opportunity for experienced teachers or tutors who are looking for a more flexible, student-focused approach to education.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver bespoke 1:1 tutoring sessions (face-to-face) in various locations across Barking and Dagenham.
  • Plan and deliver lessons across core subjects, adapted to individual student needs.
  • Support pupils with SEN or social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.
  • Encourage personal growth, routine, and educational engagement.
  • Monitor progress and provide regular feedback to the Prospero team.
Role Details
  • Location: Barking and Dagenham (and surrounding areas)
  • Position: Outreach Tutor (SEN focus)
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Contract Type: Temporary
  • Hours: Flexible - sessions are between 1 to 3 hours; part-time and full-time opportunities available
  • Pay: From £25 per hour (depending on experience and assignment)
Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS/PGCE/EYFS or equivalent)
  • Minimum 6 months' teaching/tutoring experience in UK schools
  • A calm, empathetic approach with a strong understanding of SEN/SEMH needs
  • Strong behaviour management and motivational skills
  • Up-to-date Safeguarding training (or willingness to complete one)
Eligibility Criteria
  • Must have the Right to Work in the UK
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willing to apply for a new one)
  • Able to provide two professional references covering the last two years
