GSL Education are thrilled to present an exciting opportunity for an SEN School Care role in Portland. This full-time, permanent position offers the chance to support students with a range of special educational needs (SEN) in a caring and supportive environment.

About the Role:

As an SEN School Care professional, you will play a vital role in ensuring the well-being and development of students with special needs. You will work closely with teachers and other support staff to provide personal care, educational support, and emotional guidance, helping students to access learning and develop life skills.

Responsibilities:

  1. Provide one-on-one care and support to students with SEN, including personal care where required (e.g., feeding, hygiene).
  2. Promote positive behaviour and support students in developing social and emotional skills.
  3. Work collaboratively with the class teacher to implement personalised care and support plans.
  4. Monitor students' progress, offering feedback to teaching staff and reporting any concerns or changes in behaviour.
  5. Ensure all safeguarding policies are followed to ensure the safety and well-being of students.
  6. Assist in the preparation of learning materials and classroom activities, tailored to the students' individual needs.
  7. Support the inclusion of students in school-wide activities, ensuring they have the opportunity to engage with their peers in a supportive environment.

What We’re Looking For:

  1. Previous experience working with children or young people with special educational needs (SEN) is desirable.
  2. A compassionate, patient, and understanding approach when working with vulnerable students.
  3. Ability to assist with personal care tasks in a dignified and respectful manner.
  4. Good communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a team.
  5. An understanding of safeguarding procedures and a commitment to promoting a safe environment for students.
  6. Relevant experience or qualifications in care, health, or education is advantageous but not essential.
  7. Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
