SEN PE Teacher - Specialist School (Leyland, Lancashire)

Are you a passionate and dedicated PE Teacher with experience in Special Educational Needs? Our client, a specialist school in Leyland, near Preston, is seeking a SEN PE Teacher to join their team, delivering high-quality physical education to students with social, emotional, and mental health needs.

  • Salary: M1 - M6 (dependent on experience)
  • Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent (40 hours per week)

Our client provides specialist education and therapeutic support for students aged 9-16 who face challenges associated with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs. They are committed to creating a supportive and engaging learning environment that helps students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

As an SEN PE Teacher, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality PE lessons within small class groups (no more than 8 students). You will also provide general KS2 teaching, ensuring students are supported in their learning and personal development.

  • Plan and deliver engaging PE lessons tailored to meet the needs of students with SEN.
  • Manage and oversee the daily operations of the classroom.
  • Assess, record, and report on student progress in line with school policies.
  • Take an active role in safeguarding, promoting the welfare of students, and adhering to safeguarding and PREVENT policies.
  • Provide leadership, support, and supervision for Assistant Teachers and Teaching Assistants, including conducting professional development reviews.
  • Attend and contribute to teacher meetings, multi-disciplinary meetings, and staff training sessions.
  • Ensure students receive a high level of personal care and well-being support, liaising with care staff, medical staff, and behaviour support teams as needed.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A recognised teaching qualification (PGCE, QTS, Cert Ed, or equivalent).
  • Experience teaching in either primary or secondary education.
  • A strong understanding of Special Educational Needs, particularly SEMH and autism.
  • Experience in curriculum planning and development for students with SEN.
  • The ability to implement behaviour management strategies effectively.
