Job description

At this nursery, they are passionate about providing a nurturing and inclusive early years environment where every child is celebrated and supported to achieve their full potential. They are now seeking a dedicated SEN Nursery Lead to join their team and take the lead on provision for children with additional needs within their nursery. Beginning September 2025.

Duties as SEN Nursery Lead:
  1. Lead and manage inclusive practice for children with SEND in the nursery.
  2. Support staff in adapting teaching and provision to meet a range of needs (e.g., speech and language, ASD, sensory, global developmental delay).
  3. Coordinate early identification and assessment, and contribute to EHCP processes.
  4. Liaise with external professionals, including speech and language therapists, educational psychologists, and early years support services.
  5. Model and promote effective inclusive teaching strategies.
  6. Work in partnership with parents and carers, offering guidance and regular communication.
  7. Maintain accurate records of provision, progress, and professional input.
  8. Lead SEND-focused staff training and development in the early years team.
Ideal SEN Nursery Lead:
  1. Hold a relevant early years qualification (Level 3 or above); a teaching qualification or SENCO accreditation is desirable.
  2. Have significant experience working with children with SEND in an early years setting.
  3. Demonstrate excellent knowledge of the EYFS and SEND Code of Practice (0–5 years).
  4. Have strong communication and leadership skills as a SEN Nursery Lead.
  5. Be passionate about inclusion and have a nurturing, child-centred approach.
  6. Be confident working collaboratively with families and professionals.
  7. Be well-organised, proactive, and flexible in approach.
